I'll be blunt: Krabi isn't the Thailand of year-round postcards.
Between unpredictable monsoons, gray skies like a botched Instagram filter and canceled boats, it's safe to say that without a plan B, your stay can quickly turn into Netflix & humidity.
The best time to go to Krabi? From December to March, without hesitation.
But if you want save 40% on your budget and avoid the crowdI have some secrets to share with you.
I've been there 5 times.
I saw Krabi drowned in rain in September, but also calm and golden in November.
And I fled December when everything costs a kidney.
In this article, I give you :
- my favorite months according to your travel style
- real feedback from the field (not generalities)
- and tips on how to enjoy yourself in the rain
Shall we?
🌤️ Krabi's climate deciphered (in no uncertain terms)
Krabi is pure tropical hot and humid all year round.
Maximum temperatures fluctuate between 31°C in January and up to 34°C in March-Aprilwith nights around 23-24°C.
The sea remains between 28 and 29°CIt's perfect for swimming, but what really makes a difference is the rain.

The 2 real seasons to remember :
- Dry season (the jackpot) from early December (around 9-10) à late April (around April 21-22).
During this period, rainfall is very scarce (February is the driest with around 3 days of rain for 24-25 mm).
This is the perfect season for boat excursions to the Phi Phi Islands or Railay Beach. - Monsoon (rainy season) from mid-April to early Decemberculminating in September-October (up to 21 days of rain, > 300 mm per month).
These rains often occur in intense showers lasting 1-2 hoursfollowed by frequent sunny spells.
Cloud cover very high between April and September (overcast at 90%), then progressively lower at the end of November and December (between 68% and 81%).
February remains the sunniest (~40% of clear skies).
There are often heavy showers in the late afternoon, followed by superb clear spells.
I've learned to plan my outdoor activities in the morning to avoid the deluge.

📅 Which month to choose, depending on what you're looking for?
Do you want the best possible climate?
December to February The best of the best in terms of weather.
Clear skies, tolerable heat (~30°C), calm sea, moderate humidity...
It's the perfect time to enjoy the islands, beaches and excursions without any unexpected weather.
This is also the period the sunniest of the yearparticularly in February.
Disadvantage everyone has the same idea.
Prices go up (especially between Christmas and February) and some beaches like Railay can be crowded during the day.
Looking for the best value for your money?
November and March my secret months.
The climate is still top-notch, especially from November 10-15, and prices are still mild.
Fewer people, more flexibility and equally beautiful scenery.
Bonus: in November, you can live Loy KrathongOne of the country's most beautiful festivals, with thousands of lanterns floating on the water.
A magical moment, without the December rush.
Do you like adventure and real experiences?
May to August a more authentic Krabi.
Fewer tourists, lower prices and real immersion in local life.
Rains are more frequent, but often short and concentrated at the end of the day.
And frankly, they make the landscapes even more powerful: the jungle vibrates with green, the waterfalls are unleashed.
I remember an August afternoon at Tiger Cave Temple: alone at the top, without a sound, with an infinite view of the province... whereas in December, you sometimes have to elbow your way to a photo.

⚠️ The period avoided (unless...)
September-October: the real rainy season
This is serious business.
Heavy rainfall can cause flooding on the roads, and rough seas make boat trips impossible.
Exception: If you come for the spa, the food and the quiet atmosphere, September might be a choice.
Prices are rock-bottom, and you'll get a very local experience.

💰 The impact of the seasons on your budget
There are real price differences depending on the season, especially for accommodation:
- High season (particularly from December to the end of February) : account 2000 to 3000 baht/night (≈52/night) for a good 3-4 star hotel in Ao Nang.
On the restaurant side, some "tourist" menus cost an extra 20 to 30 %especially by the sea. - Mid-season (particularly March-April and November) the same hotel falls to 1000-2000 bahts (≈26€), or even less if you book early.
This is often where you find the best balance between weather, price and availability. - Low season (May to October) promos are raining down as hard as the monsoon.
You can find 4-star hotels at 1500-2000 bahtsor even 1200 bahts for villas with swimming pool (personal experience in August).
The same rooms cost triple at Christmas.
🏖️ What to do depending on the season
Dry season: focus on beaches and islands
This is the best time to explore the classics: Phi Phi Islands, James Bond Island, or go on a visit to the 4 islands around Krabi.
The sea is calm, underwater visibility is good and the boats move around without interruption.
Ideal for snorkeling, kayaking or just sunbathing.
My favourite spots: Railay Beach at sunset (always magical) and Phra Nang Cave beach, at low tide, when it's in the water. seems to float between the cliffs.
Rainy season: heading for the interior
When the sea gets rough, inland becomes the best playground.
It's time to visit the temples, the tropical forests and, above all, the waterfalls: they are at their peak.
Tiger Cave Temple in the rain is mystical, misty and silent.
And at Emerald Pool and Huay Toh Waterfall, water gushes out in abundance.
As for the Krabi Festival, it takes place every year at the beginning of November (usually around the 15th), to mark the tourist revival: cultural shows, sports competitions and a guaranteed local atmosphere.
🎒 My practical tips by season
December-March: preparing for high season
Book hotels, restaurants and excursions at least 2 to 3 months in advance everything fills up fast.
Use SPF 50+ sun cream The sun is beating down hard, even in the shade.
Generally provides for 30 to 40 % more budget than the sites display (high season obliges).
Avoid weekends if possible, and prefer weekday arrivals/departures for greater peace and quiet.
April-November: smart, flexible fashion
Slide a poncho or light windbreaker in your bag + quick-drying shoes.
Always include a plan B indoors massage, cosy cafés, shopping malls...
Take advantage of our special offers Many hotels offer flexible rates or last-minute deals.
Frankly, it works in 8 out of 10 cases!
🚀 So, when are you leaving?
